Youngkwang began in 1962 as Youngkwang Machine Works and designs and builds large equipment and modules for the shipbuilding, offshore and plant industries. The company was incorporated on June 16, 1999, and is headquartered in Ulju-gun, Ulsan.
In shipbuilding and offshore, it supplies engine room units, hull blocks and fuel gas supply systems. In plant equipment, it supplies items such as pressure vessels and heat exchangers. Its plant products also include chemical process equipment and skids.
Its integrated production system keeps piping, steel structure, welding, instrumentation and assembly in-house. In LNG fuel gas supply systems, it covers design, fabrication, assembly, onboard installation and commissioning, and it supplies the system as a package.
The business runs on a made-to-order basis rather than mass production. Shipbuilding units follow the construction schedules of major domestic shipyards, while plant equipment is built to the specifications of global EPC contractors.
The company is expanding into ultra-high-voltage transformer enclosures, data center power equipment, nuclear and small modular reactor (SMR) components, and hydrogen and carbon capture equipment.
Paid-in capital is KRW 4.528 billion and the company has 192 employees. After the offering, three major shareholders including CEO Heo Cheol-ki (31.36%) hold 61.88% of issued shares. No official revenue breakdown by segment was confirmed in this research, so the segment mix is described only qualitatively.
The competitive picture covers other domestic and overseas ship equipment and plant module makers, and it is also shaped by the industry structure in which Chinese yards take a growing share of orders. According to a report citing Clarksons Research data, Chinese yards captured 75% of global newbuilding orders in 2026.
