NPK was founded in 1987 through a technology and capital partnership with Japan's largest plastic raw material processor, Nippon Pigment, and has built an annual production capacity of about 55,000 metric tons across general-purpose and engineering plastic compounds and various color and functional masterbatches, positioning itself as a leading domestic plastic processing company.
In terms of revenue mix, plastic compounds account for the larger share while masterbatch makes up the rest; as of the first quarter of 2026, compounds represented roughly 92% of revenue and masterbatch about 8%.
The core compound products are composite materials made by blending general plastic resins with glass fiber, carbon-based materials and various functional additives to enhance strength, heat resistance and processability, used in automotive bumpers, dashboards, electronic component housings, and washing machine and air-conditioner exteriors.
Masterbatch products are highly concentrated additives that impart color and function to plastics, enabling anti-static, UV-blocking and flame-retardant properties at the material stage.
The headquarters and production facilities are located in the Gumi National Industrial Complex in North Gyeongsang Province, and in October 2017 the company established a Chinese subsidiary, Zhongshan NPK New Materials Co., in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, to expand its production and sales footprint.
Its main customer base sits within automotive and home appliance supply chains, as NPK's business is directly linked to automotive and appliance industry supply chains.
The general-purpose compound market is competitive, with numerous domestic and overseas chemical and materials companies vying for share, including engineering plastics divisions of larger chemical conglomerates in some segments.
Beyond its traditional manufacturing-based compound business, the company has also expanded into functional new materials such as conductive nano-inks and nano-antibacterial agents.
