English version
Electrification and ADAS lifted revenue to a record, yet tariffs, one-off costs, and lofty robotics expectations are testing the quality of earnings.
HL Mando, spun off from HL Holdings (formerly Mando) in 2014, focuses on chassis systems—braking, steering and suspension—and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). As HL Group's mobility affiliate, it mainly supplies brakes, steering and suspension parts along with ADAS, a core of autonomous driving. It is diversifying its customer base beyond Hyundai-Kia to GM, Ford, Chinese local OEMs, and European and Indian automakers, with 19 production sites across the U.S., Europe, China and India. Its autonomous-driving division was carved out as a separate entity, HL Klemove, to accelerate the mobility business. Hyundai-Kia's share of revenue fell from 59% in 2019 to 44% in 2024, while North American OEMs rose from 19% to 27% and China and other regions from 22% to 29%. It developed the IDB integrated dynamic brake, packaging the ESC, vacuum pump and booster into one unit to improve fuel economy, shorten braking distance and enhance AEB for autonomous applications. ADAS parts account for around 10% of total revenue but are seen as having an outsized impact on profitability. Its weight within the group is decisive, as the auto segment made up 8.8 trillion won, or 74%, of HL Group's 11.8 trillion won in 2024 revenue. While serving a broad set of global automakers, commercializing mobility software solutions against rivals such as Nvidia, Mobileye and Bosch remains a challenge.
Consolidated revenue reached a record 9.45 trillion won in 2025, up from 8.85 trillion won in 2024. Operating profit, however, was 357.1 billion won, essentially unchanged from 358.8 billion won in 2024, with the operating margin slipping to 3.8% from 4.1%. The IDB2 ramp-up and expanded collaboration with Indian OEMs drove revenue growth, but U.S. tariffs and one-off provisions pushed operating profit below the prior year. Net profit attributable to owners fell to 100.0 billion won from 129.9 billion won in 2024, and basic EPS dropped to 2,130 won from 2,767 won. By quarter, 2Q25 posted a large 2.40 trillion won in revenue and 104.1 billion won in operating profit but only 4.5 billion won in owners' net profit, while 3Q25 recovered to 2.32 trillion won, 94.2 billion won and 43.7 billion won respectively. In the fourth quarter, results missed consensus due to about 43 billion won in quality provisions and SPM business-discontinuation costs, while the tariff impact itself was minimal. In 1Q26 it logged 2.31 trillion won in revenue, 93.6 billion won in operating profit and 47.8 billion won in owners' net profit. 1Q26 operating profit of 93.6 billion won (+18.2% YoY, 4.0% margin) met consensus, but excluding roughly 10 billion won of one-off gains—compensation recovered for reduced electronic parking brake volumes—underlying operating profit was about 8% below consensus. Operating cash flow of 720.9 billion won in 2025 marks a sharp recovery from the negative figure in 2022, confirming improved cash generation.
Global vehicle production is stuck in a plateau amid the EV demand lull and macro uncertainty. First-quarter global automaker output slowed 3.4% year on year. Against this backdrop, HL Mando has built resilience through regional and customer diversification: in China, which is about 20% of revenue, sales of SDV-centric models held up relatively well in the first quarter despite weaker pure-EV demand. India is a structural growth driver, as the new Pune plant and mandated ADAS adoption (such as AEB) are bringing revenue growth of over 25% and a rising share into view for 2026. Wider ADAS adoption is an industry-wide trend, with China's BYD offering ADAS for free, prompting other global EV makers to adopt it as standard and lifting demand. The autonomous-driving and electronics parts market offers high growth but is fiercely competitive and technologically demanding, requiring continuous development and quality maintenance. On positioning, HL Mando ranks behind Hyundai Mobis among domestic parts makers and is viewed as a global Tier-1 supplier growing in emerging markets. On the other hand, while it has built logistics centers in Georgia and Alabama, its high reliance on sourcing from Mexico is seen as raising tariff risk.

At its December 2025 CEO Investor Day, the company laid out a medium-term roadmap. It specified a goal of expanding from 8.8 trillion won in revenue and a 4.1% operating margin in 2024 to 14.1 trillion won in revenue and over 850 billion won in operating profit by 2030. It said the 61 trillion won order backlog as of 2024 secures visibility into long-term growth, with existing businesses lifting revenue to 11.7 trillion won and new businesses adding 2.4 trillion won to reach 14.1 trillion won. Over the same period it aims to raise ROE from 5.9% to 10%+, the operating margin from 4.1% to 6%+, cut the debt ratio from 164% to 120-130%, and lift the dividend payout to over 25%. On the new growth pillar of robot actuators, it unveiled a 3-in-1 motor-reducer-controller system at CES 2026, winning an innovation award, secured a new order for a next-generation quadruped robot actuator from a global robot firm, and is pursuing orders from another global player. One brokerage, however, expects robot actuator parts to take concrete shape only in 2027-2028. Near-term guidance is conservative: the 2026 revenue guidance is 9.6 trillion won, up 1.8% year on year, assuming slowing or declining growth in all regions except India, driven mainly by Hyundai Motor Group's expanded U.S. production and lowered output forecasts at North American EV makers.
On a headline basis, return on equity (ROE) is about 4.6%, earnings per share (EPS) 2,553 won, and book value per share (BPS) 60,238 won. One brokerage noted that expectations for the robotics business were quickly priced into the stock after the Investor Day, lifting valuation rapidly: the P/E on 2026 earnings was around 12.5x at that time but later rose to about 16.8x on estimates. The same report assessed that even on 2027 earnings estimates the P/E was 14.0x and P/B 0.9x, with an estimated ROE of 6.3%. The shares currently trade at a premium to net assets, and the earnings-based multiple sits above the historical trading band for parts makers, suggesting growth hopes for robotics and electrification are heavily pre-reflected. On dividends, the company said it would raise the payout ratio to over 25% by 2030, based on its 32.9 billion won dividend for 2024. Ultimately, the justification for the current valuation hinges on whether new-business revenue translates into actual profit, beyond a mere stabilization from losses into profit.
The company frames long-term growth around a solid order book. It said the 61 trillion won backlog as of 2024 secures visibility into medium- to long-term topline growth. In the first quarter of 2026 alone it secured 2.7 trillion won in new orders, about 21% of its annual target. Expanding orders in growth markets such as India and China are cited as enhancing long-term earnings stability.
A growing share of high-value electronic parts such as electronic braking and steering supports margin improvement. The ramp-up of second-generation IDB products raised the high-value mix and improved profitability. In North America, continued IDB2 volume growth centered on eco-friendly vehicles expands supply of profit-accretive electronic parts, supporting revenue defense and margins in a low-demand environment. The share of ADAS and other electronics parts is also gradually rising.
Extending existing auto-parts technology into robotics is seen as a new growth option. HL Mando holds core precision-component technology and mass-production quality capabilities that can be applied to robot actuators, and some existing customers are developing humanoid robots, giving it customer access. The actuator business targets a 10% market share and 2.3 trillion won in revenue by 2030. The much larger potential market versus autos is cited as an upside factor.
Revenue is at a record, but margin gains are slow. 2025 revenue rose to 9.45 trillion won, yet operating profit of 357.1 billion won was essentially flat versus 358.8 billion won in 2024, and the operating margin actually fell to 3.8%. Owners' net profit also declined to 100.0 billion won in 2025 from 129.9 billion won in 2024. The structure in which topline growth fails to flow through to shareholder earnings is a burden.
U.S. tariffs and raw-material and chip costs shake quarterly earnings. In 1Q26, memory chip price increases added 6.6 billion won to input costs year on year, with further expansion likely in 2Q26; the 10 billion won one-off gain is hard to repeat, and net tariff costs could widen if reimbursement does not increase. Its high reliance on Mexican sourcing is seen as raising tariff risk. Uncertainty over reimbursement rates and timing makes earnings hard to forecast.
Robotics expectations were priced in rapidly, raising valuation risk. One brokerage downgraded its rating to neutral in December 2025, citing excessive expectations for robot actuator supply relative to earnings improvement. Revenue from robot actuator parts is expected to take concrete shape only in 2027-2028. The gap between expectations and actual mass production and profit is a source of volatility.
HL Mando posted record revenue on high-value parts such as electronic braking, steering and ADAS, but tariffs, one-off costs and rising input prices have left operating margin and owners' net profit slow to improve. With 2025 revenue of 9.45 trillion won, operating profit of 357.1 billion won and a 3.8% margin, the structural challenge of topline growth not flowing into profitability remains. The company has set aggressive 2030 targets of 14.1 trillion won in revenue and a 6%+ operating margin, citing a 61 trillion won backlog and the robot actuator business as growth drivers. However, meaningful robotics revenue is seen in 2027-2028, and some view the rapid pricing-in of new-business expectations as a valuation burden. Growth in India and China and an improving IDB2 mix are positives, balanced against weak end-market demand, tariffs and financial leverage as negatives. Given high short-term quarterly volatility, it is worth tracking underlying profitability excluding one-offs alongside progress on new-business orders.
